Week 8 Key NFL Trends

AT FIRST GLANCE there are games that always look Tasty ATS in many publications as a Bullet trend only to trap upon further review. Since 2006, The Director has cleared the way for you to understand which team has the real ADVANTAGE against the Trend.

Exciting times for Denver Broncos and their #2 rated defense allowing only 262.5 yards per game as bettors push the spread in their favor as the week rolls on. Don't believe the hype on the BALTIMORE RAVENS who are 6-1 Against the Spread ('ATS') after the bye, and who arrive 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games versus the Broncos as their last matchup was in 2006, and ironically was the loss that broke the Ravens' 5 game winning streak ATS. Although Flacco is only a few steps behind at a 93.8 rating, you have to keep in mind that the Broncos defense is allowing only 182.6 passing yards per game, and is +7 in turnovers.

Another interesting storyline is shaping up in Arizona where the ARIZONA CARDINALS that started Delhomme's fall from grace face the Carolina Panthers, who arrive 0-2 ATS in their last 2 games versus the Cardinals, including last year's playoff upset. The interesting note here is that in those games the Cardinals were Dogs by 5.5 and 10 points. Up until the 2008, the Cardinals, including Whisenhunt's first year, had gone 0-3 ATS, and actually were 0-4 Straight Up ('SU') until last year's playoff. With Fox sticking by Delhomme, 56.5 rating, the Cardinals will look to turn the Regular Season tide with the top rated rushing defense (by yards allowed) that is flying under the radar. Look for the Cardinals 16 sack total to increase in this one.

Just as the Cardinals look to turn the tide, so do the Jacksonville Jaguars, who had gone 1-3 ATS until their big victory in Jacksonville in week 4 on 323 passing yards from Garrard, 83.9 rating. Outscored by an average of 27 points per game in their last 4 games, the TENESSEE TITANS will try to rely on their rush attack and rush defense to stay in the game, and prevent the first SU and ATS sweep in Jack Del Rio's tenure in Jacksonville. Enter Vince Young against the Jaguars defense managing only 5 sacks this year. As it was in week 4, it will be tricky attempting to slow Jones-Drew and Garrard, who seem to have the recipe in 2009.

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE
